NBA draft simulator: what actually decides where you get picked
Draft night is the single biggest branch point in a basketball career. A draft simulator turns that night into a real outcome: a pick-by-pick reveal, a team, and a role that shapes the next decade — or an undrafted camp invite and a much harder road.
In Hardwood the draft is not a standalone toy. It sits inside your career: you choose when to declare, your stock is calculated from the player you actually built, and the result follows you.
What sets your draft stock
Four things move the needle. Overall rating is the base. Hype is the scouting narrative around you and can drag a raw prospect into the lottery. Age matters in both directions — young with upside is valuable, older with the same rating is not. Accolades from your college seasons add the rest.
The board is simulated against roughly seventy-five other prospects, so your slot is relative. A strong class can push a good player into the second round.
Declare now or stay in college?
Staying adds attributes and hype and can move you up a full tier — but each extra college year is a prime NBA season you never get back, and you can stay a maximum of four.
There is a hard cap while you are still in college: undrafted or unsigned players are limited in how far they can climb until they actually make a roster. If your stock is already first-round, declaring is usually correct.
Going undrafted is not the end
Slipping out of the sixty picks gives you a camp invite instead of a guaranteed deal. Money is tight, minutes are tight, and your early investments matter far more because you cannot buy your way out of a bad start.
Undrafted runs are also the highest legacy multiplier path in practice — a Hall of Fame career that started with no draft slot scores differently from a first-overall coronation.
